Daysland North Star's Alumni Night

Daysland North Star's Alumni Night

the NCHL

CAMROSE BRUINS TO HOST ALUMNI NIGHT

The Camrose Bruins would like to recognize their hockey predesessors by hosting an Alumni Night for all former players, coaches, staff and spouses of the Daysland North Stars on Saturday, November 18th at a cost of $20.00 a person.  The pre-game social will run from 6-8 pm, which will include food, beverages and a ticket to that night's game versus the rival Wetaskiwin Longhorns.

Those who wish to attend, please RSVP to Camrosebruins@gmail.com with the number of people attending.

Follows is an article written and posted on this website back in 2021:

"On June 30th, 2021, the NCHL approved a recent request to re-locate the Daysland North Stars franchise to Camrose, team to be known as the Camrose Crush. This move signals the end of a great dynasty in Senior A and Senior AA hockey, as the Northstars have compiled an enviable record of league and provincial championships over the last number of years in both the Battle River Hockey League and more recently, the North Central Hockey League."

"In addition to this info, they were also BRHL champions in 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 as well as NCHL champions for their first 3 years (2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2017-2018). On the Provincial side, they were Alberta Provincial Senior A Champions in 2001, 2008, and Senior AA Provincial Champions in 2012 and 2016 and runners up in 2017."

Daysland entered the NCHL in the 2015-2016 season along with 3 remaining BRHL teams from Bonnyville, Big Valley and Tofield. In addition to their 3 consecutive Vanberg Cups, the North Stars lost in the finals to Morinville Kings in 2019, and then in the 2020 Vanberg Cup finals, they were leading the Red Deer Rustlers 2-0 in the best of 5 series when Covid-19 shut down the season the day before game 3 was scheduled. At the spring NCHL meeting later that year, the league agreed to move Daysland to Camrose and later that season, the Crush won their 1st Vanberg Cup. Camrose's second season wasn't as successful as they lost out in the quarter finals to Red Deer. The Crush were ultimately voted out of the league for reasons not divulged here and a new ownership group from Camrose was voted into the league, team to be known as the Camrose Bruins.

Forward to today, there are a number of former Daysland players still active playing for the Camrose Bruins (12, plus coach Tylor Keller), Wetaskiwin Longhorns (6), Lacombe Generals (2) and Devon Barons (1). From what I could find, Colin Zimmer of the Lacombe Generals holds many of the North Star's team records including career games played, career points, career goals, points per season, and goals per season.

The Daysland North Stars have had a sensational run through their existence, one that any team would love to have. Congratulations to all former players, coaches, managers, staff, families, sponsors and fans who supported this team for so long!  Here's to a large turnout of North Star's Alumni!!
