Vanberg Cup Finals Series Tied at 1

the NCHL

Two games into the Vanberg Cup finals has the teams tied at a game apiece after games Saturday and Wednesday in Lacombe.

In Saturday's game, Red Deer controlled much of the play, scoring once short handed and a couple of more on the power play to dump the home town Generals 6-3. Red Deer was lead by Tim Vanstone and Cory Pritz who each put up 1-2-3 and goaltender Devon Carroll was steady in helping the Rustlers to their win. To be fair, Lacombe hadn't played since sweeping the Devon Barons back on February 25th.

Wednesday's game was much different as the Generals controlled much of the play fashioning 2-0 and 3-0 period leads to win 4-1. Generals captain Cam Maclise 2-1-3 and forward Thomas Beretta 1-2-3 lead the way offensively for the Generals and goaltender Mack Engel rebounded from a sub par game 1 to keep the Rustlers shooters at bay.

This is now a best of five series and Red Deer has taken home ice advantage away from Lacombe. Game 3 goes on Saturday night in Penhold and game 4 will be played on Sunday afternoon in Penhold. Game 5 is scheduled for Lacombe next Saturday.
