Last Weekend of Regular Season Upon Us

This is the last weekend of the regular season and there are a number of teams still looking to lock up a playoff position.  Westlock and Red Deer currently sit in 4th and 5th place - with a Westlock win in Lacombe, the Warriors will claim 4th place and home ice advantage over Red Deer.  The Rustlers need a win over Devon and a Westlock loss to claim 4th place. 

The other key matchup is for 5th and 6th place.  With a win in Camrose and a Devon loss at home (in regulation) to Red Deer, Bonnyville would tie Devon in the standings and would win the tie breaker as they would have 1 more win.  Devon can clinch 6th place with a win. 

Lacombe clinched 1st place (and the President's Cup) a couple of weeks ago and Camrose grabbed second place with their win over Devon last weekend giving both teams a first round bye in the Vanberg Cup playoffs.  Morinville with their win over Bonnyville claimed 3rd place. 

After play from last weekend, these are my picks for players of the week:

Jaret Smith (RDR) - Jaret scored 2-1-3 to help propel the Rustlers to their home ice win over Westlock.

RJ Reed (CC) - RJ rebounded with 2-1-3 after being held off the scoresheet for only the second time this season vs Morinville. 

Kyle Harris (MK) - Kyle continued his hot play with 2-1-3 giving him 10 points in his last 3 games. 

Honourable Mentions:
Thomas Ward Cardinal (CC) - 0-3-3
Alden Dupuis (MK) - 2-1-3
Devon Carroll (RDR) - turned away 35 of 37 shots. 

Ballots for this year's all star teams as well as the individual league awards were sent out last week - results will be announced during the first round of playoffs.

Playoffs start next weekend.
