![]() The NCHL kicked off it's 2023-2024 season with three games last weekend. On Friday, the defending Vanberg Cup champs Lacombe Generals opened their season with a convincing 5-1 home ice win over the Devon Barons. After a close first period, the Generals pulled away with 4 unanswered goals in the final two periods and goaltender Mac Engel was solid, turning away any good chances that the Barons had. Vanberg Cup MVP Jamie Johnson lead the way offensively with 3 assists and 5 players scored a goal each in the balanced attack. On Saturday. a new rivalry began when the league's two new teams faced off for the first time in Camrose. The visiting Wetaskiwin Longhorns defeated the home town Bruins 6-4 in a very entertaining contest. Michael Cardinal scored twice while newly appointed Longhorn's captain RJ Reed pitched in with a goal and a couple of assists, but the star of the game was Longhorn's goaltender Devin Buffalo, who was steady in net turning away 19 Camrose shots in the third period to preserve the win. Lane Lightning lead the way offensively for the Bruins picking up a hat trick, while defenseman Landon Oslanski added three assists. A crowd of 1345 witnessed the first game of what should be a very intense rivalry. ![]() On Sunday, the Westlock Warriors put a licking on the hometown Morinville Kings 10-0.
